This duo weaves genre-crossing lines to create an extraordinary musical journey that has grown over the past years and built a loyal following at the Treehouse! In the past year they’ve opened for Shawn Mullins and Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek).
Kat Hilst started playing piano at 5, graduated from Oberlin Conservatory, and once worked for the San Francisco Opera. Tim Coffey hit the road at 19, spending 20 years as a professional touring backup guitarist. His voice and songwriting drew the attention of Breedlove Guitars, who invited him to join their stable of artists.
Kat and Tim joined forces during the recording of their first CD, ”Strings Unbound” in 2010 and recorded “The Lonely Grange Sessions” in 2012. In 2015 the band rebranded to “Coyote Willow” and began working on “Falling to Home.”
The project is inspired by the various twists and turns in their lives that led them to their musical collaboration. The title track, “Falling to Home” focuses on that moment in time where one event changes a life forever, while other songs like “Leeside” look at the longer impacts of decisions made long ago and the relationships that flow over time. And the project isn’t just about the songs; it’s about their community and the incredibly talented friends with whom they have the great fortune to work, and who inspire them daily.
The duo is a regional favorite, performing multiple venues, festivals and private events throughout the Pacific Northwest year round. Musically and lyrically, their tunes range from rockabilly to the open tuned and lyrically moving folk style, as well as instrumentals, even gypsy jazz! A musical journey that will have you rocking, thinking and maybe even crying. Enjoy!
